Recordings featuring our bassoonist, Bronson York

Here are selections of Bronson’s favorite live solo and chamber performances outside of the nonesuch.reedquintet.

Bronson York Present’s “My Dinner with Bohuslav”. A full program featuring chamber works by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů, including;

Les Rondes, a six movement set of dances with a strong influence from Stravinsky and the playfulness of Poulenc.

Nonet, one of two nonets Martinů’s in his late period, the second of which was never finished. With a more romantic flare then his earlier works, this piece is a fantastic example of Martinů’s late period

La Revue de Cuisine, firmly in is Parisian period, Martinů wrote this work for the choreographer Jarmila Kröschlová and her “Dramatic Dance Company”. The story of amorous intrigues among kitchen utensils is sure to delight and entertain. This performance of La Revue was narrated by the amazing Brian McWhorter.

Human Music, presented by Bronson York, is not only an exploration of living composers, but a curated narrative about Bronson’s time playing the bassoon. The program starts off with variations on folk tunes for solo bassoon. As the program moves along the music gets progressively more modern and technical. The program ends with a “sequel” to L’Histoire Du Soldat, the piece that started Bronson’s masters degree when he directed it along with UO faculty member and choreographer Shannon Mockli.

Nutcracker as recorded by Orchestra Next. Bronson has played second bassoon for the Eugene Ballet and Orchestra next since 2016. You can hear him featured on this recording of Nutcracker playing second bassoon to his teacher Dr. Steve Vacchi playing principal.
